Metal Vice Claddings WM120
The Metal Vice Claddings WM120 provide a metal-working type of surface for the Workmate, protecting the jaws from mechanical damage, dirt, oil, etc. The WM120 was a UK-market accessory introduced in October 1974 for the Workmate WM225, WM325, and WM525. They were never sold in the U.S. but they fit the 79-001 and other full-size North American Workmates just fine. The instruction manual for the WM120 is available on the Documents page.
They are made of extruded aluminum and fit tightly to the wooden jaws. The clamping edge is 1.5" inches tall and has the same horizontal and vertical notches as the wooden jaws do. A threaded stud centered near the non-clamping edge of the cladding goes through one of the holes in the jaw and the cladding is secured from below with a 1.5" diameter knurled nut. There are no holes in the cladding, preventing the use of swivel pegs or Gripmate clamps when the cladding is installed.
Similar metal jaws (steel in this case) were a standard feature of the Jobmate 3980 sold in Canada a few years later.
